Description
The Stargazer's Servant
Essay
Chapter I
1056 ad, Western outskirts of modern Mauritania. Caliph Abdullah Ibn Yasin won another victory over the army of the Empire of Ghana. Capturing the city of Aoudaghost, he greatly expanded the borders of the Caliphate and had plans for further military campaigns.
Making fateful decisions of national importance, the Caliph Abdullah always listened to the advice of his astrologer and soothsayer.
Thanks to extensive knowledge of astrology and ancient magic, the astrologer, almost perfectly, saw the events of the future. To the great surprise of the Caliph and his retinue, most of the predictions of the astrologer Al-Farouk came true with incredible accuracy. The Stargazer's reputation and status were impeccable.
Service at the court of the Caliph opened before Al-Farouk-Ibn Saud great opportunities to travel and to be engaged in mathematics, astrology and natural sciences, and to add the results of his research and observations to the "Ancient book of knowledge", inherited from his predecessors.
As befits court astrologers and magicians, the stargazer led a rather solitary and ascetic lifestyle, surrounding himself only with the company of his servant Al-Majnun.
Once being saved from inevitable death by the astrologer of the Caliph, Al-Majnun was immensely grateful to his master for that mercy shown, and carried out any of his orders implicitly and on time.
Curious and quick by nature, Al-Majnun soon learned that the Stargazer has an "Ancient book of knowledge", which he intends to pass on to his successor. Being impressed by the Stargazer's project, al-Majnun decides to start his own "Book of Observations" and undoubtedly pass it on to his successor.
Chapter II
Year 1991, town of Atar, Mauritania, ancient, half-ruined mosque at the town's gate. The 1989-1991 ethnic conflict, which began with territorial disputes between Mauritania and Senegal, escalated into open clashes. Black machine gunner Walid-Ibrahim-Mustafa, preparing in the ruins of the old mosque position for his machine gun, suddenly finds ancient books and bags of gold. To the yields of cheers, loudly produced by the machine gunner Walid-Ibrahim, "fellow rebels", including the rebel commander Mohammed-Walid-Moussa, immediately ran up to the place.
Having weighed the gold, but books and Al-Majnun's wonderful outfits having regarded as an extremely strange and useless stuff, the commander of insurgents withdraws the freshly found gold, building rosy plans for upcoming purchases.
Clashes and ongoing conflicts in the countries of the African continent kept alive the "small business" of the brothers Wan Shan and Dong Jo.
Having bought on the cheap a number of worn-out machine guns from the Senegalese rebels, they were strictly determined to sell them at a double price to the same rebels but in Mauritania. But the brothers ' dreams of sky-high profits are shattered in the Moorish town of Atar by the brazen and intractable rebel commander Mohammed.
Having received for their "precious" goods a sum five times less than the declared, and even, in addition, some strange books and clown costumes, the brothers Wan Shan and Dong Jo hastily left Mauritania, deciding to continue their "small business" in some other African country.
Despite the determination of the brothers, their "small business" did not last long. In Burkina Faso, trying to pay off with the dollars received from the deal with the commander Mohammed, they ended up in a local prison for counterfeiting.
After three years of diligent correction in the provincial prison of the small African town of Bungudu, they decided to stop their "small business" and do something more peaceful in their native China.
